INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CLEANING OF SEMPERIT FOOD QUALITY HOSES
Semperit food-quality hoses are in compliance with requirements specified for the respective product. This ensures that no noxious substances affect food stuffs. Please follow the instructions mentioned below to guarantee trouble-free performance of the hose, avoid any modification in the smell and taste of the transported goods and ensure the long life of the hose:
First cleaning:
Normally new hoses do not cause any modification in smell or taste of the transported food stuffs . If hoses have a typical "rubbery smell" these hoses should be treated before their initial use for 24h with 1% phosphoric acid, followed by a 2% sodium hydroxide solution or 2% sodium carbonate solution and finally rinsed with clear water.
Standard cleaning:
Treat briefly with 2% sodium hydroxide solution or use for 24h with 1% phosphoric acid, followed by a 2% sodium hydroxide solution or 2% sodium carbonate solution and finally rinsed with clear water.
Special cleaning agents:
Nearly all kinds of industrial cleaning agents and disinfectants can be used to clean Semperit food quality hoses. The cleaning process must be carried out in the concentrations and at the temperatures for rubber hoses indicated by the manufacturers of the cleaning agents in question. The use of CIP facilities together with suitable cleaning procedures is also recommended.
Resistance to cleaning agents:
Cleaning under normal conditions should not cause significant changes in hose properties.
For hoses LM2, LM3, LMD NBR, LMH NBR, LOSP, LMSP, LME, LM4 and LM4S please follow the peak values for cleaning agents and temperatures indicated below:
- Acids (e.g. phosphoric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid and cleaning agents containing these ingredients) 1 -2 % 25°C
- Alkalis (e.g. sodium hydroxide solution, sodium carbonate solution and cleaning agents containing these ingredients) 2 % 80°C
- Desinfectants (e.g peracetic acid) 500 ppm 25°C
Hoses LMW-AQUALINE, LMU und LMUS, LM1-EPDM and LM1S-EPDM, LMD, LMB and LMBS are also resistant to extreme cleaning conditions, if the indicated concentrations and temperatures are used only rarely:
- Acids (e.g. phosphoric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid and cleaning agents containing these ingredients) 2 % 40°C
- Alkalis (e.g. sodium hydroxide solution, sodium carbonate solution and cleaning agents containing these ingredients) 5 % 90°C
- Desinfectants (e.g. peracetic acid) 2000 ppm 40°C
Please note that subjecting the hose to extreme conditions for longer periods can shorten life of the hose.

SUITABILITY OF THE HOSE
The suitability of the hose is essentially determined by its resistance to the chemical product to be conveyed.
Even during proper use, sufficient resistance does not mean unlimited durability and maintenance of the hose's original properties. The effects from many different kinds of media can include swelling, shrinking and leaking of the hose media, as well as chemical reactions, thereby impairing the properties of the hose and the medium.
In general, this can happen even more quickly and suddenly the higher the working temperature, the greater the working pressure, stream velocity, wear and tear, the longer the duration and the greater the frequency of contact with the substance, the age of the hose, as well as the higher the contamination levels of the chemical substance to be conveyed.
The information contained in this resistance chart is a guideline and can only be guaranteed for a limited period of time.
This is based on laboratory tests generally carried out at a room temperature of 25° C , on relevant literature, as well as on practical experience. Chemical suitability tests are not carried out for every case.
Should the information seem insufficient or should the user be in doubt, s/he should arrange with Semperit Technical Department to have individual testing done.
In addition, the user is also recommended to carry out on-going tests of hose systems if the danger of the above mentioned occurrences cannot be ruled out.
As a rule, the tests should be repeated every six to twelve months.
DEVIATIONS
Should chemical mixtures or chemical substances other than those indicated be conveyed, or should the composition (i.e. the concentration and temperature) of the chemical substances deviate from the given information, you must either consult Semperit before using the hose system in question, or carry out a special chemical suitability test for the relevant application.
The suitability of hoses and hose systems can only be carried out on a case by case basis.
Deviations vis-à-vis Addendum 1 of EN 12115:1999 are possible.
This information is based on years of experience. Right to make technical amendments, literal mistakes and falsities reserved.

HOSE ENDS
1. Capped ends:
The hose end is covered by a rubber seal to protect the reinforcement from humidity, contamination and corrosion.
2. Spiral-free couplings:
The steel wire helix stops before the end of the hose to facilitate coupling. Additional textile reinforcement guarantees adequate strength.
3. Enlarged couplings:
This steel-free design has an enlarged end to match the outside diameter of the nipple.
4. Conical ends:
The hose end is manufactured with a conical nozzle.
